SUSTAINABILITY INNOVATION AND CONTEST We wish to keep up with the rapid pace of development in green-building technologies and management strategies and identify relevant new opportunities that will reduce Simon’s impact on the environment and our operating costs. Therefore, in 2020, Simon launched an internal Sustainability Innovation Contest which incentivizes property management teams to identify and propose unique, scalable, and creative projects that will reduce utility consumption and impact on the environment.
The team members that proposed the top 10 ideas received $1K each and were announced on Earth Day. In 2022, over 41 initiatives were gathered and assessed. Winning concepts are rolled out to the selected properties and are recognized within the company.
The team at King of Prussia ® was awarded for their sustainable efforts as they selected an innovative air filter technology that not only saves energy but also minimizes filter replacement costs. Their forward-thinking approach towards energy efficiency not only reduces operational costs but also contributes towards a greener environment.
Steve Venckus, General Manager at Newport Centre, executed a 48-property rollout of a new water monitoring program that will provide real-time identification of leak detection, abnormal use, and other issues related to domestic water usage. Water savings from this program is anticipated to be 29,416 kGals of water. James Ross , General Manager at Concord Mills, ® won the innovation award for the pavement preservation system that utilizes natural ingredients and extends pavement life.
The local team at Orlando Vineland Premium Outlets ® was awarded for their outstanding sustainability efforts in proposing an innovative system that significantly reduces kitchen solid wastes from entering grease traps and plumbing systems. This solution also minimizes pumping and reduces maintenance costs.
