SIMON SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2022

CONNECTING TO NATURE By investing in urban landscaping, Simon can contribute to the development of attractive and vibrant neighborhoods, providing a positive impact on local communities and creating more appealing places for customers.

BEEHIVES IN NORTHGATE STATION We are committed to promoting sustainable practices that benefit the environment and local communities. As part of our biodiversity initiatives, the local team at Northgate Station partnered with Alvéole to introduce beehives at the property. With the redevelopment of Northgate Station underway, the addition of these beehives will stimulate local biodiversity and provide more green areas for the community. In July 2023, the newly developed Central Park will be opened, further promoting sustainability efforts in the area. Urban beekeeping not only supports local biodiversity but also creates an opportunity to educate our community about the environment. By repurposing unused spaces within cities, we can foster a more sustainable approach to urban development while producing hyper-local honey. We are proud to support initiatives that promote environmental sustainability and community engagement, and we are excited to see the positive impact that urban beekeeping will have on the local ecosystem.

UPGRADE LANDSCAPING Investing in urban landscaping surrounding shopping centers is a valuable strategy for promoting biodiversity, community well-being, and business growth. As the first and last impression that customers have of a shopping center, outdoor spaces must be aesthetically pleasing and convey a positive atmosphere. Furthermore, outdoor areas provide vital green spaces where communities can gather and interact with nature. Through investing in local ecosystems by replanting trees and adding native vegetation, We can promote biodiversity and contribute to the overall health of the environment. At Williamsburg Premium Outlets, ® Williamsburg, Virginia, investment in landscaping will include renovating the extensive sidewalk beds with rock borders at the perimeter of each to enhance the definition of plant beds and reduce annual mulch consumption throughout the common areas. These beds are being replanted with highly sustainable and drought-resistant perennials to reduce overall water consumption for the maintenance of the beds. Further enhancements include repairing brick bed borders, moving, trimming, and replacing mature trees to encourage abundant growth and raised sight lines in the roadside, median, and parking lot green spaces throughout the center. This project will significantly enhance the shopping center’s appearance and appeal to customers while reducing annual mulch consumption through the use of rock perimeters and the reduction of water consumption with the addition of drought-resistant perennials in the common area landscape beds, while maintaining healthy growth in the center’s green spaces.
