SIMON SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2022
NOTABLE D&I ACTIVITIES IN 2022 Our primary goal in 2022 was to continue to raise awareness of key D&I concepts across the organization and to equip each of our teams to recognize and act upon opportunities to foster inclusion and further contribute to a great culture at Simon. Through the collaborative efforts of the D&I Council and HR partners, we accomplished this goal by furthering the educational opportunities and activities available to our employees that promoted their ability to personally support an environment of connection and belonging at Simon. D&I STATEMENT AND POLICY We maintained our D&I statement and policy on Simon’s corporate website. The posting of Simon’s D&I statement helps to reinforce our public commitment to valuing diversity as essential and key to our success. Find our D&I Statement and Policy at: careers.simon.com/core-values Furthermore, our commitment to supporting a positive employee experience at Simon earned our organization nationwide recognition as a Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion by the Disability Equality Index (DEI) in 2022. DEI is a joint initiative of the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) and Disability: IN, whose goal is to help companies collaborate with purpose to promote the full inclusion of people with disabilities. Our goal in 2023 is to continue exploring new ways in which Simon can advance its policies and procedures to meaningfully support a more inclusive environment and a greater sense of well-being for every employee. D&I GOVERNANCE Simon’s employee-led Diversity & Inclusion Council (D&I), formed in 2021, continues to act on behalf of Simon employees by providing practical input and guidance to Simon’s organizational D&I efforts and help manage our D&I strategy and ongoing activities. The Council members meet quarterly to work with HR and senior business leaders to formulate strategies to help integrate D&I best practices within the business and act as positive change agents.
The Council launched a series of quarterly newsletters and announcements in 2022 in an effort to educate and inform employees about various cultural celebrations, community involvement, and D&I activities taking place across the organization. As a component of these communications, a “Leaders in Inclusion” spotlight was announced as a way to recognize leaders within the business who seek to intentionally promote a culture of inclusion, understanding, and respect. Through our partnership with NAREIT, Simon continues to benchmark our organization against other comparable publicly traded real estate companies in our sector. We participated in the 2022 NAREIT Workforce Development & DEI Survey that focuses on workforce training, talent attraction, development and retention, policies and practices, diversity, equity, and inclusion KPIs and programming, employee demographics, pay and Board equity, and supplier considerations. With over 130 participating organizations surveyed, insights reflect that Simon continues to demonstrate leadership among NAREIT member peer companies with respect to workforce development practices and DEI priorities.
